Gallocanta Lake is situated halfway between the provinces of Teruel and Zaragoza. It is a shallow inland saline lake of 1.400 Ha. which is located at high altitude in the heart of the Iberian Mountains.

It takes up the bottom of a large endorheic basin of gentle topography, except towards the NE with the Valdelacasa and Valdellosa mountain ranges.

The rainfall in the area is scarce (500 mm per year approximately), concentrated during spring and autumn. The weather is continental with dry and cold winters and hot summers.
